Ryazanov makes no secret of the fact that reception of his more recent films -- the director has made six since 1990 -- has been more disappointing, not least because of the collapse of the Soviet distribution system.
Ryazanov has his own opinions on changes in the Russian film industry, though he was reluctant to comment on them in detail during the recent interview.
Ryazanov is loath to sum up his own career in just a few words, having had too many different kinds of experiences along the way.
