Seniūnija (elderate or eldership in English) is the smallest administrative division of Lithuania. An eldership could either be a very small region consisting of few villages, one single town, or part of a big city. Elderships vary in size and population depending on their place and nature. A few elderships make up a municipality. Elderships manage small scale local matters, such as repairing pavements/dirt roads, keeping records on all families living in the eldership. Its premise is that unlike with higher administrative divisions, an elder (leader of eldership) could have time to talk to every person in the eldership who wants to. Elder (Seniūnas) is a person who is the leader of elderly (seniūnija in Lithuanian), smallest Lithuanias administrative division (County being the largest, and municipality or district - second by size). ...

The region maintains two branches of the Panevėžys Local Lore Museum: the sculptor J.Zikaras’ birthplace-house in the Paliukai Village (Panevėžys Elderate) established in 1972, and the ethnographic homestead in Smilgiai (opened in 1979) showing the household of a middling peasant of the end of the XIX century - beginning of the XX century.
In 1987 in Puziniškis Village (Smilgiai Elderate), the birthplace of the writer, cultural and public figure G.Petkevičaitė-Bitė, and the commemorative exposition was opened.

They must be baptised members of at least 12 months standing whom the church clearly feel to have the gift and call of God and not merely to fill a vacancy, as it is envisaged that there could be times when the Lord does not seem to have given such men to the church.
There shall be no time limit to their call to the Elderate but the church shall have the right to dismiss an elder.
