Eldorado is a town located in Jackson County, Oklahoma. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 527.


Geography

Eldorado is located at 34°28'21" North, 99°38'58" West (34.472560, -99.649330)1.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 2.0 km˛ (0.8 mi˛). 2.0 km˛ (0.8 mi˛) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 527 people, 234 households, and 145 families residing in the town. The population density is 264.3/km˛ (682.7/mi˛). There are 301 housing units at an average density of 150.9/km˛ (389.9/mi˛). The racial makeup of the town is 90.70% White, 0.00% African American, 1.14% Native American, 0.19% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 6.83% from other races, and 1.14% from two or more races. 8.35% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 234 households out of which 25.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 47.4% are married couples living together, 10.7% have a female householder with no husband present, and 38.0% are non-families. 35.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 23.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.25 and the average family size is 2.90.


In the town the population is spread out with 23.7% under the age of 18, 9.3% from 18 to 24, 19.4% from 25 to 44, 18.8% from 45 to 64, and 28.8% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 43 years. For every 100 females there are 84.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 87.9 males.


The median income for a household in the town is $21,806, and the median income for a family is $26,354. Males have a median income of $25,000 versus $15,000 for females. The per capita income for the town is $12,003. 23.8% of the population and 20.3% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 24.8% of those under the age of 18 and 25.0% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
