Burkina Faso elects on national level a head of state - the president - and a legislature. The president is elected for a seven year term by the people. The Parliament (Parlement) has two chambers, the National Assembly (Assemblée nationale) with 111 members, elected for a five year term by proportional representation in 30 constituencies, and the Chamber of Representatives (Chambre des Réprésentants) has 178 members appointed for a three year term. Burkina Faso is a one party dominant state with the Congress for Democracy and Progress in power. Opposition parties are allowed, but are widely considered to have no real chance of gaining power. Though a term originally coined for presidents of republics, a head of state or chief of state is now universally known as the chief public representative of a nation-state, federation or commonwealth, whose role generally includes personifying the continuity and legitimacy of the state and exercising the political powers... Burkina Faso has a primarily tropical climate with two very distinct seasons: the rainy season with between 600 and 900 mm (24-35 inches) of rainfall, and the dry season during which the harmattan blows, a hot dry wind from the Sahara.
