Transnistria TMR / Pridnestrovie Moldova Republic PMR (572 words)
Transnistria - or Pridnestrovie as it is called locally - is a country in South Eastern Europe.
Transnistria maintains friendly relations with other countries in the area and, under the auspices of the OSCE, an active involvement in settlement talks with Moldova over its territorial claim.
Transnistria: Although "Transnistria" is the name most commonly used to describe Pridnestrovie in English, the name is wrong on two counts: It is not from our language, and it doesn't describe the territory of our country accurately.
Eurasian Home - analytical resource (677 words)
The elections to the Supreme Council of Transnistria have shown once again that Moldova has no instruments to influence the political situation on the left bank of the Dniester river, except for the acknowledgement of the elections illegitimate.
At the same time, it is necessary to acknowledge that there are no conditions in Transnistria to conduct democratic elections according to the international standards: there is no political opposition, and the local mass media are controlled by the Transnistrian government.
However, even if the elections were held after demilitarization of Transnistria (as it is required by Moldova and the OSCE), political forces loyal to Smirnov would win.
