Electribe is the name given to a group of electronic musical instruments by Korg that essentially resemble the Roland TR-808 and TR-909 in appearence and in function. From its beginnings with the Electribe R to the ESX-1, this series includes both analogue modelling synthesizers and sampling drum machines that can be programmed the same as a drum machine. Both the analogue modelling synth and sampling drum machine both share a drum-pattern section and a synth-pattern section, whereby the user can not only program drum patterns, but also synth and basslines. These hybrid machines could be considered 'groove-boxes'. Roland TR-808 Introduced in 1980, the Roland TR-808 was one of the first programmable drum machines. ... Roland TR-909 The TR-909 was a partially analog, partially sample-based drum machine built by Roland Corporation in 1984. ...
Each of the Electribes is programmed by pressing a step in a sequence and assigning it a value, or by putting it into loop mode and playing and tweaking a rhythm or melody until you get it the way you want it.
The Electribes are a blast to work with because of their ease of use, their good sounds, and the light show they put on as they play.
The ER-1 is one of the stronger of the Electribes.
