An electrical connection between discrete points allows the flow of electrons, (current). A pair of connections is needed for a circuit.
Between points with a low voltage difference between them, direct current flow can be controlled by a switch. However, if the points are not connected, and the voltage difference between those points is high enough, electrical ionization of the atmosphere will occur, and current flow will tend to occur along the path of least resistance.
For example, in one high-voltage (60 kV) RADAR laboratory, an individual (who fortunately survived this) pointed his finger at an electrical component: "What's that?". Fortunately, his elbow was crooked, as direct current flow occurred from the high voltage component, arcing through the air to his finger, along his forearm and out his elbow to ground.
For this reason, at least one experienced electrical engineer tends to work one-handed on circuits, to minimize a chance electrical connection, and tends to keep his hands behind him in high-voltage situations.
In a hermaphroditic electricalconnection as set forth in claim 2, wherein said spring arms are configured with opposing longitudinal side edges spaced-apart more closely than lateral mid-portions of the spring arms to define four points of contact between the spring arms and the contact blade.
In a hermaphroditic electricalconnection as set forth in claim wherein said complementary interengaging guide means comprise a longitudinal trough in the contact blade and a detent in at least one of the contact arms for projecting into and sliding in the trough during mating of the terminals.
In a hermaphroditic electricalconnection as set forth in claim wherein said contact arms are configured with opposing longitudinal side edges spaced-apart more closely than lateral mid-portions of the contact arms to define four points of contact between the spring arms and the contact blade.
The stub connection is inserted into the cavity and the gel such that the stub connection displaces and thereby deforms and elongates the gel.
A pin is inserted through the cap and a crotch of the stub connection to retain the cap on the stub connection and to maintain the gel in the elongated state such that the gel exerts an outward force on the stub connection and the interior wall of the cap.
As the connection 10 is inserted, the connection 10 and the interior surface 132 of the cap 130 apply a compressive force to the gel 110.
