Personality and appearance

Due to their relatively short amount of screen-time, the Elementals aren't explored into detail in terms of character, giving the player only a slight understanding of each Elemental's personality. Rok-Ko has somewhat of a bully-esque personality, talking tough and calling Crash names.[2] Wa-Wa's personality and voice are based on that of a stereotypical gunnery sergeant: agressive and loud-mouthed.[3] Py-Ro appears unstable and pyromanic,[4] and Lo-Lo is apparently the joker of the group.[5] Bullying involves the tormenting of others through verbal harassment, physical assault, or other more subtle methods of coercion such as manipulation. ... Much like Aku Aku and Uka Uka, the Elementals are floating sentient masks with magical powers, and each have their own distinct appearance that correlates with their element. Rok-Ko is a brown and orange mask filled with corners and points. His eyes resemble red upside-down triangles, and the ends of his four teeth are jagged. Wa-Wa is a light-blue mask with large facial features and green-yellow pupils. Py-Ro is an orange mask with frequently gritted teeth, large ovular eyes, and wavy appendages on the top of his head (meant to resemble flames). Finally, Lo-Lo is a light-blue Elemental (though lighter than Wa-Wa) with white blush and eyes. His puffed-out cheeks and circular mouth suggest that Lo-Lo was made to resemble a man blowing. History

According to a story Uka Uka tells in the instruction manual of Wrath of Cortex, the Elementals wreaked havoc in the world and its inhabitants. The Ancient Ancestors fought a brave battle against the Elementals, and managed to imprison them in Power Crystals. This hibernation state would last for millenia.

Several years later, the Elementals are revived by Uka Uka and Doctor Neo Cortex, who are in need of a power source for Cortex's new secret weapon, Crunch Bandicoot. The prescence of the Elementals is felt everywhere on the globe, as earthquakes ravage the coastlines, volcanoes erupt, and tsunamis end the Bandicoots' vacation short.[6] When Aku Aku attempts to find out what he is planning, the Elementals attempt to destroy Aku Aku with their combined forces, but Aku Aku escapes. When Crash attempts to stop the Elementals and Crunch, each of the Elementals give their power to Crunch, increasing his Elemental powers. However, they are still no match for Crash, who collects the Power Crystals and returns the Elementals to their hibernation state. Powers

The Elementals are capable of causing intense natural disasters based on their respective element. Furthermore, they are capable of transferring their energy to whoever can use the masks, as demonstrated in each of the boss fights against Crunch. An explanation of each Elementals' powers will be shown below.

  • Rok-Ko has the power over earth-related disasters, such as earthquakes and landslides. He enables Crunch to turn himself into a large boulder in order to combat Crash and his Atlasphere. During the final boss fight, he causes large rocks to fall from the sky.
  • Wa-Wa has the power over water-related disasters, such as intense rain and tsunamis (which usually leads to floods, as seen in the level "Tsunami"). He transforms Crunch into a being made entirely of water, and doubles his size. During the final boss fight, he causes large ice balls to appear in the area, which freeze Crash on contact.
  • Py-Ro has the power over fire-related disasters, though the only one seen is causing volcanoes to erupt. He transforms Crunch into a being of molten rock capable of tossing scorching hot stones at Crash. During the final boss fight, he causes fire to erupt from the grating below Crash.
  • Lo-Lo has the power over wind-related disasters, none of which are seen in the game (although tornadoes are seen in an early level, these are caused by generators created by Neo Cortex).[7] He transforms Crunch into a gigantic genie-like entity capable of electric attacks. During the final boss fight, he causes electric bolts to travel across the floor.

Voices

  • Rok-Ko is voiced by Back to the Future star Thomas F. Wilson in the original English version of the game, and by Toshiaki Kuwahara in the Japanese dub.
  • Wa-Wa is voiced by Full Metal Jacket star R. Lee Ermey in the original English version of the game. His voice acting in the game is very similar to that of his "Gunnery Sergeant Hartman" character in the aforementioned film, though his dialogue is toned down here in comparison to the movie. In the Japanese dub, Wa-Wa is voiced by Kappei Yamaguchi, who, oddly enough, dubs over Crash in the same series.
  • Py-Ro is voiced by Mark Hamill, who would, coincidentially, go on to voice the Fire Lord Ozai in the animated television series Avatar: The Last Airbender. In the Japanese dub, Py-Ro is voiced by Satoshikō Kiyomizu.
  • Lo-Lo is voiced by Jess Harnell, who would later voice Crash in a later Crash game Crash Tag Team Racing. In the Japanese dub, Lo-Lo is voiced by Masaru Ikeda, who dubs over Doctor Nefarious Tropy in the same series.
