"Elevation" is the third track and third single release from U2's 2000 album, All That You Can't Leave Behind. Featuring a thunderous beat, a variety of sound effects on the central guitar riff, and an easy rhyming lyric for the audience to shout along with, it was highly effective in that concert-starting role and became a hit in the United States and the United Kingdom. Thus it was used as the concert opener during the Elevation Tour and near the beginning of shows in the subsequent Vertigo Tour. During live shows during the Vertigo Tour, it was played without drums and bass for the first verse and chorus before the rest of the band joins in. It has been played at every U2 concert since it debuted, and it is the only song for which The Edge uses his Gibson SG. Image File history File links Sing048-01. ...

Music video
A music video was made for "Elevation" and is set around Lara Croft and a rescue of The Edge from his "evil twin brother" (The Edge has been inserted into footage from the Tomb Raider movie). The video begins with Bono being called by the "evil Bono" and informed that they have The Edge. After escaping evil Bono's murder attempts, the band reunites and performs a "rock-off" against the "evil U2", ending with their victory. In the video Edge uses a Marshall amp instead of his usual Vox and Fender amps. The video was released as a digital DVD ("Version 7" below), the band's first, on July 16, 2001. [1] The making of the music video was on MTV's Making The Video and it is directed by Joseph Kahn.
