In 2006, there were proposals to renovate the local high school, Brookfield East High School, which are still pending.

In late 2006, the city council granted permission to hire a sharpshooter in the Indian Hills Estates subdivision to kill deer in an effort to curb overpopulation. It has been challenged by environmental activists.
