Elmsford is a village located in Westchester County, New York. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 4,676. As a village, it is located in the Town of Greenburgh.


Geography

Elmsford is located at 41°3'14" North, 73°48'57" West (41.053963, -73.815711)1.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 2.8 km˛ (1.1 mi˛). 2.8 km˛ (1.1 mi˛) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 4,676 people, 1,674 households, and 1,156 families residing in the village. The population density is 1,641.3/km˛ (4,266.7/mi˛). There are 1,738 housing units at an average density of 610.0/km˛ (1,585.9/mi˛). The racial makeup of the village is 55.80% White, 20.30% African American, 0.75% Native American, 9.07% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 8.28% from other races, and 5.77% from two or more races. 23.29% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 1,674 households out of which 30.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.1% are married couples living together, 12.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 30.9% are non-families. 23.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 5.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.79 and the average family size is 3.28.


In the village the population is spread out with 22.1% under the age of 18, 8.7% from 18 to 24, 38.8% from 25 to 44, 19.3% from 45 to 64, and 11.0% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 34 years. For every 100 females there are 102.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 101.8 males.


The median income for a household in the village is $61,685, and the median income for a family is $71,630. Males have a median income of $42,500 versus $38,583 for females. The per capita income for the village is $28,791. 9.3% of the population and 6.7% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 12.9% of those under the age of 18 and 11.6% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
