There is much ancient woodland in this area. Elmstead Woods may be reached from Elmstead Lane. There is a Green Chain walk (pedestrian country walkway) linking the Walden Recreation Ground and the woods. It's also possible to walk from the woods to Sundridge Park (now a golf club and leisure / conference facility) and to Chinbrook Meadows, a very pleasant park, with a children's play area. The woods are stunning in the autumn, and are well worth paying a visit. The actual boundary of Elmstead spreads from Chislehurst West (previously known as 'Prickend' or 'Pricking') to Elmstead Woods railway station, which borders Bickley. The railway station itself celebrated its 100th birthday in August 2004. It has two ponds, complete with fish, and beautiful landscaped garden areas. The station has won many awards. Ravensbourne College of Design and Communication is a short taxi drive away, or a 15 minute walk. The nearest pub is the 'Lounge' (previously the Blue Atrium) on White Horse Hill, Chislehurst.
