Elmwood is a village located in Pierce County, Wisconsin. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 841.


Geography

Elmwood is located at 44°46'44" North, 92°8'57" West (44.778996, -92.149090)1.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 3.8 km˛ (1.5 mi˛). 3.8 km˛ (1.5 mi˛) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 841 people, 343 households, and 218 families residing in the village. The population density is 219.4/km˛ (568.2/mi˛). There are 366 housing units at an average density of 95.5/km˛ (247.3/mi˛). The racial makeup of the village is 97.98% White, 0.12% African American, 0.24% Native American, 0.12% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.83% from other races, and 0.71% from two or more races. 1.43% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 343 households out of which 27.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.9% are married couples living together, 9.0% have a female householder with no husband present, and 36.4% are non-families. 32.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 17.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.29 and the average family size is 2.90.


In the village the population is spread out with 22.4% under the age of 18, 6.8% from 18 to 24, 25.4% from 25 to 44, 21.5% from 45 to 64, and 23.9% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 41 years. For every 100 females there are 85.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 80.9 males.


The median income for a household in the village is $33,558, and the median income for a family is $41,250. Males have a median income of $32,375 versus $22,250 for females. The per capita income for the village is $16,369. 4.4% of the population and 2.3% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 2.6% of those under the age of 18 and 8.3% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
