Flatley tended to play internationally at centre. This is mainly due to Stephen Larkham holding the position of fly half. Indeed, he played at inside centre in the 2003 Rugby World Cup and looked as comfortable and composed as ever. Flatley made his debut for the Queensland Reds in 1996, the inaugural season of the Super 12, at the very young age of 18 against New Zealand side, Highlanders. Retired Wallaby Elton Flatley has appeared in a Gold Coast court on a charge of drink-driving.


The former Queensland Reds captain was stopped by police while driving near his home at Mermaid Beach earlier this month.


Today the 30-year-old appeared in the Southport Magistrates Court, where he had his matter adjourned so he could apply for a work licence.


Mr Flatley spoke briefly outside the court.


"Yeah, irresponsible and silly so learnt our lesson," he said.


The former Wallaby played 38 Tests for Australia and retired from the game after suffering a series of head injuries.


The father of two children will apply for a work licence on January 10.
