Elwood is a city in Madison County, Indiana, United States. It is part of the Anderson, Indiana Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 9,737 at the 2000 census. Elwood is most famous as the birthplace of Wendell Willkie, the 1940 Republican presidential candidate who unsuccessfully challenged FDR. An Indiana Historical Society marker sits at the site of his acceptance speech in Callaway Park.
