Elysburg is a census-designated place located in Northumberland County, Pennsylvania. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 2,067. One of the town's biggest attractions is Knoebels Amusement Park, with 2 world class wooden roller coasters.


Geography

Elysburg is located at 40°51'50" North, 76°33'8" West (40.863812, -76.552344)1.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 7.6 km˛ (2.9 mi˛). 7.6 km˛ (2.9 mi˛) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 2,067 people, 855 households, and 593 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 273.3/km˛ (708.4/mi˛). There are 909 housing units at an average density of 120.2/km˛ (311.5/mi˛). The racial makeup of the CDP is 99.37% White, 0.15% African American, 0.05% Native American, 0.24% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.19% from two or more races. 0.44% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 855 households out of which 29.9% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.5% are married couples living together, 8.0% have a female householder with no husband present, and 30.6% are non-families. 28.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 15.6% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.35 and the average family size is 2.86.


In the CDP the population is spread out with 22.4% under the age of 18, 4.0% from 18 to 24, 24.8% from 25 to 44, 25.7% from 45 to 64, and 23.1% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 44 years. For every 100 females there are 90.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 84.7 males.


The median income for a household in the CDP is $37,167, and the median income for a family is $56,815. Males have a median income of $45,507 versus $31,985 for females. The per capita income for the CDP is $20,897. 9.0% of the population and 4.6% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 9.5% of those under the age of 18 and 10.0% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
