Amir of Bahrain was the title given to the ruler of Bahrain from 1971 until 2002. In 2002 the then Amir Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa changed his title to King of Bahrain. Prior to 1971 the title of the ruler was Hakim of Bahrain. Emir (also sometimes rendered as Amir or Ameer, Arabic commander) is a title of nobility historically used in Islamic nations of the Middle East and North Africa. ...
