Emma is a city located in Lafayette and Saline County, Missouri. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 243.


Geography

Emma is located at 38°58'40" North, 93°29'38" West (38.977871, -93.493922)1.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.1 km˛ (0.4 mi˛). None of the area is covered with water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 243 people, 93 households, and 75 families residing in the city. The population density is 218.2/km˛ (562.3/mi˛). There are 98 housing units at an average density of 88.0/km˛ (226.8/mi˛). The racial makeup of the city is 98.77% White, 0.00% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 1.23% from two or more races. 0.82% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 93 households out of which 33.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 71.0% are married couples living together, 5.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 18.3% are non-families. 16.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.61 and the average family size is 2.92.


In the city the population is spread out with 26.3% under the age of 18, 7.0% from 18 to 24, 23.5% from 25 to 44, 23.9% from 45 to 64, and 19.3% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 39 years. For every 100 females there are 99.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 96.7 males.


The median income for a household in the city is $34,167, and the median income for a family is $47,500. Males have a median income of $28,750 versus $22,917 for females. The per capita income for the city is $14,994. 12.4% of the population and 7.4% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 22.4% of those under the age of 18 and 4.0% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.

Emma Pyeatt was born in August of 1883 in Missouri (probably St Louis County) to Jacob and Isabella Pyeatt Pyatt.
It is not surprising that Emma or her children would be close to Walter as the children lived with Walter and his parents much of the time that Emma was not in residence.
Living at #4222 Arco Street was Emma's brother, William Pyatt, and family; their sister, Maud Halla, and family was at #6904 West Avenue; their brother, Harry Pyatt, was in Carondolet Township, St. Louis County, Missouri; and, their brother, Charles B Pyatt, was across the river in East St. Louis, St. Clair County, Illinois.
