Emma Hardinge Britten wrote the seven principles of spiritualism still in use today. They are:
1. The Fatherhood of God. 2. The Brotherhood of Man. 3. The Communion of Spirits and the Ministry of Angels. 4. The Continuous Existence of the Human Soul. 5. Personnal Responsibility. 5. Compensation and Retribution hereafter for all the good and evil deeds done on earth. 6. Eternal Progress open to everyone.
They are also open to interpretation. It would be right to point out that the first and second principles also include the motherhood of god and the sisterhood of man. It was also decided not to put Jesus Christ as the leader of the principles as it would put a time limit on these principles and would not make them open to all people of the world. Currently such principles are practiced by churches in the UK, France, Germany, Sweden, Australia, South Africa, Nigeria, Russia, Japan, Canada and the USA amongst others.
Other Books attributed to her are Ghost Land, Art Spiritus, and Ninteenth Century Miracles. She also was one of six founding members of the Theosophy Society with Madam Blavatsky till they had a falling out. She reportedly gained her psychic abilities as a child medium for a secret masonic society.
Britten was, throughout her career primarily influenced by magick rather than mediumship, in the strict sense.
Britten and Emma were present at what turned out to be the founding meeting of the Society in New York on September 7, 1875 at the home of Madame Blavatsky.
EmmaHardingeBritten is, perhaps, the most renowned and most respected advocate and proponent in the early Modern Spiritualist Movement.
She was the daughter of Captain Floyd Hardinge, whom writers call a seafaring man. Early in her life, she had shown gifts as a musician, singer, and speaker.
Because of the nature of the details given through her mediumship, EmmaHardinge was threatened with prosecution by the owners of the boat when the story was made public, but all the details were found to be true and accurate.
