Her video blog entries, which ranged from topics such as dancing and yoga to her pet guinea pigs, have attracted over 880,000 hits. A video posted in response to people making negative comments about her videos attracted 320,000 hits to her video blog, putting her in Youtube's Most Subscribed list after only three months on the site. When active, she spent about 20 minutes a week on her videos, and about the same time editing them. They were edited with Windows XP's video editing tools and filmed on a high-quality webcam. When asked if she hoped her videos would lead to an acting gig or a reality show she replied 'No', "As you've seen, I'm 'talentless' in the field of entertainment. My talent is more written than spoken. I would never dream of landing an acting gig -- I'm studying [information technology] at the moment and also have strong interests in writing, photography and psychology (my college major)."^[1]

After only three months on the site, Emmalina's videos had received more than 4 million views. Her popularity and notoriety were both expanded by her tendency to raise provocative issues, which were addressed through Youtube's built-in capability for both text and video commenting. Because the site allows searching by "most commented" as well as "most viewed" and "highest rated," users are able to enhance their visibility by staying in contact with viewers, which was one of Emmalina's relative strengths.

On August 9, 2006 Emmalina removed all of her videos and profile information from YouTube, setting them as private. She explained her departure at YouTubeTalk.com, stating that

someone somehow got hold of recent pictures and videos of my boyfriend and I [sic], as well as incredibly private files. ...so the individual who e-mailed them to me, flaunting them, would either have required physical access to my computer, or a knowledge of exactly what they were looking for and a backdoor vulnerability in my system
