Life
In 1198, he became Emperor upon the abdication of Go-Toba, who continued to rule in actual fact as cloistered Emperor. However, in 1210, Go-Toba persuaded him to abdicate in favor of his younger brother, who became the Juntoku Emperor.
Emperor Go-Tsuchimikado (jp: 後土御門天皇) (July 3, 1442 – October 21, 1500) was the 103rd imperial ruler of Japan.
He ruled from August 21, 1464 until his death on October 21, 1500, giving him, at thirty-six years, 2 months, the longest reign of any emperor in the historical period prior to Emperor Meiji.
