Velo was not all he seemed however. When he lost against the Earth Racers a second time, his true form is revealed: in a fit of extreme anger, he self-destructed. It turned out that the version our heroes were facing was a robotic suit, controlled by the Real Velo: a small alien no bigger than Cortex's head.
Trivia - In Crash Nitro Kart, there is an invincibility mask icon available to Team Oxide and Trance that looks just like Velo's head, except it doesn't have any pupils in the eyes (similar to Aku Aku and Uka Uka). The mask doesn't talk much throughout (except chuckling when activated).
- "Velo" is Spanish for "veil", as in a disguise or mask, referring to the fact that the Velo the heroes meet at first is just a robotic suit hiding the real Velo. However, velo is also the french word for bicycle, so the origin of the name is slightly debatable. Of course, it may well be both.
