Gao Yang was the second son of generalGao Huan. Gao Yang 高洋 [1](posthumous Beiqi Wenxuandi 北齊文宣帝) continued the conquest politics of his father and was able to defeat northern nomadtribes of the Moxi 莫奚, Khitan (Chinese: Qidan 契丹), and Rouran 柔然, but also parts of the River Huai 淮 area. But unlike his father, Gao Yang employed the equal field system (juntianfa 均田法) of the Northern Wei (Beiwei 北魏) to strengthen his economy. Together with Northern Zhou (Beizhou 北周) and the empire of Chen 陳 in the south, we have a second period of three empires occupying the territory of China.
