Encyclopędia Iranica is a project in Columbia University's Center for Iranian studies, to create an English language encyclopedia about Iran and Persia. It has already published 11 volumes, and is planning to publish a total of 25 to 30 volumes. It is edited by Ehsan Yarshater.

The first edition (EI1) was modeled on the Pauly-Wissowa Encyclopaedia of the Ancient World, created uder the aegis of the International Union of Academies, coordinated by Leiden University, and published in four volumes plus supplement from 1913 to 1938 in English, German, and French editions.
The current, second edition of Encyclopaedia of Islam (EI2) was begun in 1954 and completed in 2005 (several indexes to be published until 2007); it is published by the Dutch company Brill Academic Publishers and is available in English and French.
