Engaeus is a genus of freshwater crayfish found in Australia. 15 of the 35 species in the genera are known to occur in Tasmania, where they are known as the Tasmanian land crayfish. Engaeus is a genus of freshwater crayfish found only in south-eastern Australia (Horwitz, 1990).
Most members of Engaeus are characterised by their ability to contruct burrows.
Engaeus yabbimunna was unknown until 1992, when a population was located at Burnie on the North West Coast of Tasmania (Doran and Richards, 1996).
