Engis is a municipality located in the Belgian province of Liège. On January 1st, 2004 Engis had a total population of 5,628 (2,739 males and 2,889 females). The total area is 27.74 km² which gives a population density of 202.87 inhabitants per km².
Their goal was to automate their machining process but still have the versatility of a manual lathe when they needed it.
Engis designs, engineers, machines, plates, inspections and ships all of its Electrogrip diamond and CBN-plated tools at the company's corporate headquarters in Wheeling, IL.
This has enabled Engis to begin manufacturing parts in-house that were previously sent out reducing the overall cost of their manufacturing process.
Through a global network, Engis manufactures and markets microfinishing systems for operations that demand sub-micron levels of precision in surface polishing and texturizing.
In the area of diamond lapping/polishing, Engis is the technology leader.
For the compound semiconductor community, and the emerging MEMS / Nanotechnology industry at large, Engis is pioneering the use of diamond-based CMP-D slurries to replace or augment costly traditional CMP polishing with the efficiency of precisely graded micron diamond slurries.
