Englewood is a census-designated place located in Charlotte County, Florida. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 16,196.

Englewood was also the original name for Vineland, Florida.

Geography

Englewood is located at 26°57'47" North, 82°21'7" West (26.963038, -82.352016)¹.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 33.2 km² (12.8 mi²). 25.5 km² (9.8 mi²) of it is land and 7.8 km² (3.0 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 23.38% water.

Demographics

As of the census² of 2000, there are 16,196 people, 8,291 households, and 5,206 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 636.1/km² (1,647.6/mi²). There are 10,495 housing units at an average density of 412.2/km² (1,067.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 98.25% White, 0.19% African American, 0.25% Native American, 0.36% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.40% from other races, and 0.54% from two or more races. 1.49% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 8,291 households out of which 10.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 55.4% are married couples living together, 5.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 37.2% are non-families. 32.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 21.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 1.94 and the average family size is 2.36.

In the CDP the population is spread out with 10.3% under the age of 18, 3.2% from 18 to 24, 14.1% from 25 to 44, 26.0% from 45 to 64, and 46.4% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 63 years. For every 100 females there are 88.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 86.9 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP is $31,806, and the median income for a family is $38,978. Males have a median income of $26,568 versus $21,242 for females. The per capita income for the CDP is $23,462. 8.7% of the population and 5.5% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 17.8% of those under the age of 18 and 4.9% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
