Englewood Cliffs is a borough located in Bergen County, New Jersey. As of the 2000 census, the borough had a total population of 5,322.


Geography

Englewood Cliffs is located at 40°52'57" North, 73°57'9" West (40.882622, -73.952498)1.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 8.8 km˛ (3.4 mi˛). 5.4 km˛ (2.1 mi˛) of it is land and 3.3 km˛ (1.3 mi˛) of it is water. The total area is 38.17% water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 5,322 people, 1,818 households, and 1,559 families residing in the borough. The population density is 983.2/km˛ (2,544.3/mi˛). There are 1,889 housing units at an average density of 349.0/km˛ (903.1/mi˛). The racial makeup of the borough is 66.84% White, 1.37% African American, 0.04% Native American, 29.69% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.71% from other races, and 1.35% from two or more races. 4.89% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 1,818 households out of which 31.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 76.0% are married couples living together, 7.0% have a female householder with no husband present, and 14.2% are non-families. 12.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.90 and the average family size is 3.16.


In the borough the population is spread out with 20.7% under the age of 18, 5.7% from 18 to 24, 23.9% from 25 to 44, 27.7% from 45 to 64, and 22.0% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 45 years. For every 100 females there are 89.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 84.8 males.


The median income for a household in the borough is $106,478, and the median income for a family is $113,187. Males have a median income of $79,501 versus $42,019 for females. The per capita income for the borough is $57,399. 2.6% of the population and 1.4% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 1.9% of those under the age of 18 and 5.3% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
