Encyclopedia > Enso (town)

Enso (in Jääski) was a Finnish industrial town that was lost to the Soviet Union due to a unilateral Soviet reinterpretation of the Moscow Peace Treaty. The town was evacuated, settled by Soviet subjects, and renamed to Svetogorsk.

Unlike towns renamed in honour of for instance prominent Socialists, e.g. Leningrad, the town was not re-renamed back to Enso after the collapse of the Soviet Union.
