The Entente Florale is an international horticultural competition. There are two categories : towns and villages, and cities. It was founded in 1977, initially as an Anglo-French competition. Entrants now come from nations across Europe, including the Republic of Ireland, the United Kingdom, France, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Austria, Slovenia, Croatia, the Czech Republic and Hungary. The Latin words hortus (garden plant) and cultura (culture) together form horticulture, classically defined as the culture or growing of garden plants. ...

The entrants are usually the winners of national competitions, such as Britain in Bloom or Ireland's Tidy Towns competition. Each competing nations send a judge to examine the other entrants and decide the winner. Britain in Bloom is a horticultural competition in the United Kingdom; organised by the Royal Horticultural Society, and currently sponsored by B&Q. It is entered by settlements; the winner is the settlement judged to have beautified itself best with the use of flowers and plants. ...
