Encyclopedia > Enterprise Bargaining Agreement

An Enterprise Bargaining Agreement (EBA) is the name for a statutory agreement made under the Workplace Relations Act, and then properly registered with the Australian Industrial Relations Commission, that is made between an employer and a group of workers who work for that employer with two additional optional parties being a registered employer association and a registered employee association (a trade union).

Unlike awards, which provide similar standards for all workers in one industry covered by a specific award, EBAs only apply to workers for one employer. EBAs are seen to be a benefit for employers when they stop improved conditions becoming general in an industry. EBAs are seen to be a benefit for workers when they allow for pattern bargaining.
