In 1241, Enzio married Adelasia, Sardinian heiress of Gallura and Logudoro (he was her third husband), and received the title of "King of Sardinia" from his father. He fought in the wars between his father and the pope, and during a campaign to assist Modena against Bologna, he was defeated and captured on May 26, 1249 at La Fossalta. Until his death he was kept prisoner in Bologna, in the palace that came to bear his name.
