Epeirogenic or continent forming movements, act along the radius of the earth. They are also called radial movements. Their direction maybe towards(subsidence) or away(uplift) from the centre of the earth. They take place over broad areas and are relatively slower than orogenic movements. Orogeny (Greek for mountain generating) is the process of mountain building, and may be studied as a tectonic structural event, as a geographical event and a chronological event, in that orogenic events cause distinctive structural phenomena and related tectonic activity, affect certain regions of rocks and crust and happen within...


It is a set of forces acting along a radius from the earth's centre to the surface and are characterized by large scale upliftments and subsidence of land area. These vertical movements are a result of faulting in the earth's surface.
