Ephraim is a city located in Sanpete County, Utah. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 4,505. It is the location of Snow College.


Geography

Ephraim is located at 39°21'29" North, 111°35'2" West (39.358095, -111.584014)1.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 9.2 km˛ (3.6 mi˛). 9.2 km˛ (3.6 mi˛) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 4,505 people, 1,128 households, and 753 families residing in the city. The population density is 487.2/km˛ (1,262.4/mi˛). There are 1,275 housing units at an average density of 137.9/km˛ (357.3/mi˛). The racial makeup of the city is 89.23% White, 0.38% African American, 0.38% Native American, 1.29% Asian, 0.53% Pacific Islander, 6.86% from other races, and 1.33% from two or more races. 9.86% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 1,128 households out of which 38.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 55.8% are married couples living together, 7.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 33.2% are non-families. 14.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 7.6% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.59 and the average family size is 3.71.


In the city the population is spread out with 24.9% under the age of 18, 42.4% from 18 to 24, 14.0% from 25 to 44, 12.3% from 45 to 64, and 6.5% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 20 years. For every 100 females there are 80.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 73.3 males.


The median income for a household in the city is $28,318, and the median income for a family is $35,568. Males have a median income of $28,421 versus $21,042 for females. The per capita income for the city is $9,624. 31.0% of the population and 12.3% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 13.0% of those under the age of 18 and 7.8% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
