Era is a music project by Eric Levi that is often based around chants in an imaginary language close to Latin. The music could be described as New Age[1]. Their music mixes classical music, opera, and Gregorian chants with rock music and other contemporary styles. Their music was used in the soundtrack for the French film Les Visiteurs and in Sylvester Stallone's "Driven". The song Ameno is used in Australia within "The Power of Yes" advertisements for Optus Telecommunications. The band has sold more than 3 million albums. Fiddle Tunes of the Old Frontier: Henry Reed: His Life, Influence, and Art, Pg. 5 (947 words)
He was a kind of musical encyclopedia of his region and era, and virtually every musical influence that lingered from yore or wafted by from the world about him seems to have been imprinted in his imagination.
To scan his repertory is to abandon forever both the notion that the Appalachian region was culturally isolated a hundred years ago, and the notion that ancient traditions are best preserved when there is no contact with the new.
His tunes reveal splendidly both the depth and grandeur of the older fiddling tradition of the nineteenth-century frontier, and the richly textured fabric of continuing musical creativity in the region throughout the first half of the twentieth century.
A Circular Letter of the Musical Signification Project, Helsinki, January 24, 2000 (7092 words)
The chapters are "Levi-Straussian" " headed with musical terms " and the author investigates silence and noise in Muzak, vocal music, music and body, contemporary music, and to conclude, particularly in the music of Gilberto Mendes.
That is what they call their new method of teaching music on the basis of fundamental elements of music and the synaesthesic correspondences between them.
Entitled The Music of the Spheres, it consists of essays on grammaticality, morphology and melodic processes in the classical style, as well as writings on style-change, and on the sciences, arts, and humanities in the broader sense it concludes with an article on the "universe of universals".
