Era Aviation recently filed for protection from creditors under Chapter 11 of the US Bankruptcy Code. As part of its reorganization efforts it has ceased operations from its base in Bethel, Alaska where it provided passenger, mail, and cargo services to the surrounding villages.

The smallest towns and villages must rely on scheduled or chartered Bush flying services using general aviation aircraft such as the Cessna Caravan, the most popular aircraft in use in the state.
