Karadeniz Eregli (Ereğli) is a city in Zonguldak, Turkey. The city is called Karadeniz Eregli, which means "Black Sea Ereğli", to distinguish it from several other places called Ereğli.
Ereğli is more than 2,500 years old. It is located on the shore of the Black Sea. It was started by the ancient Greeks and was called Heraclea Pontica, after the mythical figure Hercules (Herakles).
In Ereğli is located the cave, guarded by the three-headed dog Kerberos (Cerberus), which was the gateway to hell. Herakles (Hercules) visited Ereğli, and killed Kerberos in order to enter Hell on one of his quests.
