Encyclopedia > Eric Davis (football player)

Eric Davis (born January 26, 1968) is a former NFL player who started his career in 1990 with the San Francisco 49ers. He became an unsung hero in the 1994 NFC Championship Game versus the Dallas Cowboys when he made two key plays early in the game. First, a 44 yard interception return for a Touchdown on the game's third play from scrimmage, and a forced fumble on Michael Irvin that led to another 49ers Touchdown. These plays helped the 49ers beat the 2-time champion Cowboys to advance to Super Bowl XXIX. The 49ers would go on to beat the San Diego Chargers. Then in 1996 he became a free agent and signed with the Carolina Panthers, and also help them reach the NFC Title game, but loss to Green Bay. In 2001 he was a Denver Bronco and in 2002 he was a Detroit Lion, but he had a quiet career since the late 1990's. But he ended his career with 38 interceptions.
