Erispoë was Duke of Brittany, succeeding his father Nominoë in 851. He successfully faced Charles the Bald on the 22 August 851 at Jengland near the river Vilaine. Erispoë met Charles II in Angers in the days following the battle and agreed to a peace treaty in return for the recognition of Breton independence, as well as territorial concessions.
