Life and career
Born in Budapest, Hungary, he emigrated to the United States and began working as a camera operator on such silent films as Wings (1928). Between 1928 and 1977, he served as cinematographer on seventy films. He is best recognized for his collaborations with directors Robert Aldrich (Kiss Me Deadly, 1955) and Stanley Kramer (Ship of Fools, 1965).
