Ernesto Rodrigues

Ernesto Rodrigues (born in Lisbon, August 29, 1959) is a Portuguese composer, violinist, violist and electronic musician. Rodrigues has been playing the violin for 30 years and in that time has played all genres of music ranging from contemporary music to free jazz and free improvisation, in the studio and live around the world. He created the record label Creative Sources Recordings in 1999, which mainly concentrates on releasing experimental and electro-acoustic music. He is also known as a painter. Style and influences

As a violinist/violist his interests include contemporary improvised and composed music, as well as the avant-garde techniques of indeterminate, stochastic, aleatoric, minimalistic music and musique concrète. He has worked with the graphic scores of Gerhard Stäbler and studied with contemporary composers Paulo Brandão, Eurico Carrapatoso, Emmanuel Nunes, and Pedro M. Rocha. Electronic music was an early influence. He experiments with the sonic and textural elements of his instruments, often using extended techniques and going beyond the traditional romantic sound of the violin and viola through the use of preparations and micro-tuning.
