Hinterberger was a skilled electrician. From 1950 to 1952, he visited police school, due to a weak sight he worked however as a librarian during the Viennese national education. After closing of these libraries he worked up to his retirement in 1991 as a forwarding clerk in a factory.


His "Mundl" Edmund Sackbauer, (anti-)Held the TV serial Ein echter Wiener geht nicht unter, became in the entire German linguistic area the epitome of the Viennese inhabitants of building of municipalities.
