Ernst Freiherr von Weizsäcker (1882 - 1951) was a German diplomat. Weizsäcker, a member of the German Foreign Office from 1920, became Under-Secretary of State and directly responsible to Joachim von Ribbentrop Joachim von Ribbentrop (born Joachim Ribbentrop) (April 30, 1893–October 16, 1946) was the Foreign Minister of Nazi Germany from 1938 until 1945. Ribbentrop was born in Wesel, Niederrhein, the son of the officer Ulrich Friedrich Joachim Ribbentrop. Fluent in French and English, Ribbentrop lived several... Joachim von Ribbentrop, Head of the Foreign Office, in 1938. He was envoy to the Vatican from 1943. In 1947, Weizsäcker was arrested and accused of crimes against humanity and war crimes. Weizsäcker was sentenced to seven years imprisonment in 1949 in the Ministries Trial. He was released in 1950.


Ernst von Weizsäcker was the father of Carl Friedrich von Weizsäcker (born 28 June 1912), German physicist. Weizsäcker was the son of the German diplomat Ernst von Weizsäcker and brother of the later German president Richard von Weizsäcker. He studied under Werner Heisenberg and Niels Bohr.
