It was written in 1997 by Ed Carp, and enjoys wide use in Europe, but has had limited acceptance in the US, due to limited exposure and the lack of an open source version of the software, but plans are underway to open source the software in early 2007. Escapade lays down a groove and embeds complementing, counterpointing, or cacophonic elements within it instead, though it should be noted that cacophony is used to punctuate or create tension, not as a crutch.
Escapade is quite diverse and rather hard to describe, but this NY-band is certainly rooted in the Sun Ra tradition of intergalactic doses of experiments in tone, tempo and texture.
To say that Escapade is a "guitar" band is correct, for there are certainly a plethora of the stringed instruments being tortured and strummed to produce the band's wall of noise sound...but the other instruments contribute with equal verve and fury, generating a cohesion that often strains the ear to dissect.
