Escargoon

Escargoon (Doctor Escargon (ドクター・エスカルゴン Dokutaa Esukarugon?) is a fictional character in the Kirby anime series. He is one of the lead male characters in Kirby: Right Back at Ya! besides Kirby. His name is a play on both the foodstuff escargot, and in the English dub, the word "goon". He is voiced by Naoki Tatsuta in the Japanese version and Ted Lewis in the English dub. Image File history File links Doctorescargoon. ... Image File history File links Doctorescargoon. ... There have been several people of note called Ted Lewis. ...

Appearance

Escargoon is an anthropomorphic snail with lavender skin and a green shell. Despite being a snail, he does not apear to be slimy. He has a green 'mustache' and goatee, as well as green eyes. He has only four teeth in his mouth, though on occasion the animators mistakenly draw him with a mouth of them. He's drawn in a more exaggerated 'cartoon-like' style that most of the other characters. Anthropomorphism, also referred to as personification or prosopopeia, is the attribution of human characteristics to inanimate objects, animals, forces of nature, and others. ... The name snail applies to most members of the molluscan class Gastropoda that have coiled shells. ...

Profile

Escargoon was born in another country, and lived on a farm with his mother. He left as an adult, vowing that he would one day become great and make her proud. But as he says, the real world was cruel and he somehow ended up in Dream Land working for the greedy and cruel King Dedede. He can be seen as Dedede's sidekick, and usually accompanies the king wherever he goes. King Dedede, correctly pronounced Day-Day-Day, is a rival of Kirby in Nintendo and HAL Laboratorys Kirby series of videogames. ...

Escargoon is actually quite intelligent, with a great deal of knowledge in electronics, chemistry and botany (even writing an encyclopedia on the subject called 'The Encyclopedia of Botanica'). Though it seems like it would be easy to find employment elsewhere, he seems content to stay at the castle to take care of Dedede. He uses his expertise to help Dedede with his various schemes to get rid of Kirby. The field of electronics comprises the study and use of systems that operate by controlling the flow of electrons (or other charge carriers) in devices such as thermionic valves (vacuum tubes) and semiconductors. ... Chemistry (from Greek χημεία khemeia[1] meaning alchemy) is the science of matter at the atomic to molecular scale, dealing primarily with collections of atoms, such as molecules, crystals, and metals. ... Pinguicula grandiflora Botany is the scientific study of plantlife. ...

He often acts rather grumpy and mean, especially to the children of the village. It is never clear whether he's actually a nice guy at heart who acts mean to get Dedede's approval, or if he's really bad and only acts nice when he needs something from someone. He's also very cowardly, according to his mother, and would never willingly hurt anyone. It's likely that he is a good person, but Dedede's influence has affected him.

He also acts as the king's punching bag, constantly the target of Dedede's anger and being smacked or smashed with his mallet. Escargoon is quite used to it, but that doesn't mean he won't take any chance he can get to get even with him.

Despite the abuse he gets, he truly cares for Dedede. In the dub he is changed to say he only stays with Dedede in hopes of getting a raise or becoming King himself. In the original, Escargoon actually says that he loves Dedede (though not to his face), and goes out of his way to make sure that he's happy.

Escargoon speaks rather politely in the Japanese version, while the English dub makes him much more sarcastic. His voice is almost similar to Paul Lynde's. Paul Lynde Paul Edward Lynde (June 13, 1926 – January 10, 1982) was an American comedian and actor. ...

Inventions

Escargoon is responsible for making a variety of gadgets and formulas to help Dedede beat Kirby.
