Esperanto Antaŭen (meaning Esperanto Forward) was founded in April 2001 with the support of research scientists at the Alstom Power Research Facilities in Baden-Dättwil, Switzerland as well as individual speakers of Esperanto from four continents. In addition to managing the Calgary Esperanto Center, offering Esperanto courses and events, Esperanto Antaŭen also maintains the Dorothy Hawley Esperanto Library. Visitors to the library can peruse Esperanto magazines, newsletters and other publications from more than thirty countries, as well as hundreds of books, (mostly donated from the personal collection of Dorothy Hawley). The library also contains a small collection of films, music cassettes and CDs.
The Calgary Esperanto Center began operating in May 2002 as a small room inside The Calgary Multicultural Centre at its old location in East Village, east of downtown Calgary in Canada.
In June 2003, EsperantoAntauen announced the signing of a five year lease for a new home for the Calgary Esperanto Center.
One of the rooms is being used primarily as a classroom for Esperanto courses, another room is being used as home of the Dorothy Hawley Esperanto Library and venue for small meeting and events the third room is a small administration office.
