Estelle is a census-designated place located in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 15,880.


Geography

Estelle is located at 29°50'51" North, 90°6'29" West (29.847527, -90.108117)1.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 13.1 km˛ (5.1 mi˛). 13.1 km˛ (5.1 mi˛) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 15,880 people, 5,012 households, and 4,360 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 1,214.1/km˛ (3,141.6/mi˛). There are 5,124 housing units at an average density of 391.8/km˛ (1,013.7/mi˛). The racial makeup of the CDP is 75.33% White, 16.79% African American, 0.82% Native American, 3.31% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 1.90% from other races, and 1.80% from two or more races. 7.20% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 5,012 households out of which 48.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 68.4% are married couples living together, 13.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 13.0% are non-families. 10.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 2.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.17 and the average family size is 3.37.


In the CDP the population is spread out with 30.9% under the age of 18, 9.6% from 18 to 24, 32.7% from 25 to 44, 21.8% from 45 to 64, and 5.0% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 32 years. For every 100 females there are 96.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 92.3 males.


The median income for a household in the CDP is $45,293, and the median income for a family is $47,500. Males have a median income of $34,476 versus $21,880 for females. The per capita income for the CDP is $16,586. 10.9% of the population and 8.2% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 16.7% of those under the age of 18 and 6.7% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
