Science Fiction Book Reviews (876 words)
Although Friesner has the reputation of being a humorist, it seems worth noting that none of the three above-mentioned stories are humor pieces; of the remaining nine, only five can be so classified.
Friesner's intelligence and passion come across clearly in her fiction, and her writing is often marked (though sometimes marred) by striking poetic imagery and clever phrasing.
That Friesner makes Lewis Carroll the victim of this tedious approach while purporting to rescue him from it (he seems to have done pretty well in his own defense for nearly 150 years) is an irony that unfortunately escapes the author.
