Estian Calitz (23 May 1949) is the Director of Finance and Professor of Economics at the University of Stellenbosch, South Africa since 2003. Calitz was born and grew up in the Eastern Cape Province town of George. After completing his masters in economics at the University of Stellenbosch he joined the South African Reserve Bank in 1972 in South Africa as an assistant economic researcher. In the same year he started leacturing at the University of Pretoria until 1975 when he switched to the Rand Afrikaans University. The Eastern Cape is a province of South Africa. ... In 1989, Calitz became the Deputy Director-General at the Department of Finance and in 1993 he became the Director-General. He left the government in 1996 to take up the post of Professor of Economics at the University of South Africa. Calitz returned to the University of Stellenbosch in 2001 as the Dean of Economics and Management Sciences.
