Lawrence Estrella was convicted of being a "felon in possession" of a firearm in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 922(g)(1) and sentenced as an armed career criminal.
Estrella's conviction in 1980 for the predicate offense, the armed assault and robbery, occurred more than seven years prior to his purchase of the gun in 1994.
